We finshed the Pandora swap and now have moved on to pens…..Enjoy the eye candy.
Well the swappers did it they decided that we would be making Pandora Style beads. If you would like to join in on the fun you do have to be a member of the Yahoo group City O Clay so come on over and join in on the fun. Due date is Feb 1st
Here are some inspirational links that were found by some of the members. Even if you do not join in on the swap see how easy it is to make a Pandora Style bead!
What exactly is a Pandora bead?
A Pandora bead is a bead that will fit on the Pandora style bracelet or necklace.
Here is a link that has almost every quesiton you could have about a Pandora style bracelet answered at your fingertips.
They typically are ___approx 4mm in diamater and made to fit on a Pandora style bracelet.
Below please find some links to Pandora type beads made from polymer clay.
one with stripes
Cat Therian’s take on this
And here is a whole bunch of videos for oyu to enjoy
This is a tutorial that you can buy but the picture might give you an idea of how to make lampwork beads a-la pandora style
One of my favorites! I am going to try to make some of these in dog and cat form
Some YouTube movies
In this one the camera moves a lot but it’ll give you an idea
I really like this one and the clear instructions. Also the idea to use a toothpick first, then a skewer and then the core, because it will distort your bead less… Oh and she uses cane slices
Italian video but she uses a flathead screwdriver to get the rest of the clay out of the hole AND I saw she is also using the grommets that one would use for fabric (with one of those special pliers that crimps them together)
Not a tutorial but it shows a lot of different style pandora beads
These are from Luny….Thanks Luny!
This Pandora bead tutorial doesn’t have the grommets but will still give you a good idea of things/designs you can do …
“Chunky” Pandora bead tutorial
A simple tutorial – it is in French but still easy to understand by looking at the photos …
Please know that some of these are for sale but I am not affiliated with them in any way.
These are just pictures (images) of Pandora beads for ideas and inspiration.

These are sterling silver Pandora beads but I thought I would share them as I sure got a few ideas while browsing through them.
I am sure there is a quote almost like what I am going to say but I will get lost on the information highway looking for it so I am not going and will wing it on my own I want to blog.
If you depend on someone to help you do or change something they will never help you until it becomes inconvenient for them not to.
Case in point.
My computer has been giving me all kinds of warning signals saying there was low battery and no disk space for a while now. None no space how in the heck is that?? I cleaned all I could to free up space and asked son if he could as well. Still wasn’t enough to free up space so I had to decide what the next step was and today was the day to get that checked off my list. I have the dragon swap mailing in the next week and will need space on the computer to save the pictures EEEKKK.
I went to Best Buy and found an external drive that holds 1.5 tb. A tb is a terrabyte and that is equal to 1000GigaByte. Now that’s not what I went in there looking for I asked the guy to show me what my options were for clearing up some space on the computer. He showed me two items and after I asked what in the heck a terrabyte was it was decided by me that was a shitload of room and I would never have to worry again problem solved battery on order life is good!
When I get home and instruct #1 son to move his music to the drive so there is room on the computer and I can start bloggen again he asks what in the heck a terrabyte is Ha Ha. When it became inconvenient for him to have to use the external drive to add or listen to music suddenly 4 gigabytes magically appeared free on my computer and I am now sitting here blogging again AND will be able to take that terrabyte thing back to the store.
I missed it and really missed sharing my recent creation.
I hope to blog about the Zentangle creation soon and for me this one was a challenge. I know what went wrong so next time it can only get better. Here are the sides of a box before assembly to get an idea of how great it turned out. Enjoy the eye candy and get ready for the two sides of art retrospect as was soooooo true this time while creating.
Finally the texture sheet swap is over and I can share what I did and what others sent in with you. I am amazed that I have never thought in texture before and so happy this was the one chosen so I could.
Here are the sheets I got in the swap
These are some of my sheets and how I made them, a salt shaker.
Finally I am able to show you the pictures of the match box swap shrine that just finished up. I must admit they dropped out like flies this time! I do not know exactly what it was about the match box swap that got to us but it was a hard one this time! Enjoy the pics!
And the winner is Erl Hill. I hope that you enjoy it and it can help you some time with your art. Sometimes it is a hard struggle to create what we think is art I know I do. I have a bowl of rocks that I have written simple inspirational things on. When I struggle with a design I reach into the bowl and it helps me with direction. This was a play on that bowl that helps me. On the outside I chose a combination lock because it is not one thing (like a key) that is needed but many techniques to finish a project. With each completed project we add to our library of knowledge.
Erl I hope you enjoy this match box swap and be on the look out as soon we will have the Carol Simmons swap pictures and give away. (NOTE it is my piece being given away not Carol’s).
My family god bless them are so helpful with my art journey. They have put up with me roaming the isles at stores and finding something that usually is made for something else that I am going to use with my clay pieces. They have put up with me throwing clay under their bum to warm it up while they are lazing on the couch. They have helped me with design and color schemes and are always there to give me their honest opinion on my creations.
I was not ready however for the reaction to my latest creation from my son.
‘Whadda ya think Fouad?”
“Are you serious?”
“Yes I want to know what do you think of this it is part of my new spring collection.”
“Mom do not take this the wrong way but in all of the years with all the things you have brought to me this is the worst thing ever.”
“I am telling you that it is the worst thing ever!”
“Let me go change my shirt” ………..me running, changing, and coming back to ask again……”So whadda ya think?”
“What part of that is the worst thing ever do you not understand? You can change your shirt all you want that will not help it is the design that is wrong. Colors are good but the whole design is wrong. What is this sticking out? Mom you need to go back and try again.”
“Where is my phone I am going to text dad and ask him?”
“Go right ahead text him he will tell you the same thing I did.”
“I know I will wear it to work tomorrow and ask them they will tell me.”
“Mom if they are your real friends they will tell you it is ugly……if not then they will say they like it and be lying.”
Flash to the next work day when I wore it to work and got the honest opinions. Thumbs down 100%.
I know I told you there would be a giveaway this week and there is YEA.
To enter for MY matchbox swap giveaway just leave a comment about one of your experiences when you asked someone for advice on your art and they gave it to you no holes barred. This piece will be unveiled next week when the winner is announced as I am still waiting for an overseas participant to get their swap box. We want it to be a surprise. You do not have to have a negative experience to win any memory will be fine.
With our designs we struggle sometimes creating what we think is wearable art. I still like what I made and think it looks great with my hot pink shirt but ya just never know.
My husband has been out-of-town for the last two and a half months, he comes home Thursday. With that in mind I spent today watching Wild Card Weekend and getting all the clay related items all over the house back in the studio.
One of the first projects I will be working on while back in the studio is this………….
The artist in me says Wonderful! I have the opportunity to learn a technique with new tools that are provided to master that technique.
The crazy clay lady in me says Heck Yea mama got some new toys I am going to play!
Finally the mini food swap pics are up. As always I was so amazed at how wonderful the entries were. Great job guys!
The swap has finished and the participants have recieved their boxes so now it is time to share with you. This swap was for a colorful ocean creature and as always this proud swap mama is so amazed at the entries. I hope you enjoy them.
Next Swap is for mini food and I can not wait to see what comes off everyone’s clay table. This time they will get their boxes very close to Christmas so it will be special well more special than it usually is.
This week for us in the Northeast it has all been about hurricane preparedness. Everyone went crazy at the stores buying what they thought they would need and got ready to batten down the hatches for a monumental storm. In our house that meant bringing in the Gardenias. I walk by them every day and I never really notices how large the leaves were on this one.
It was almost dead last year and somehow this guy brought it back to better than perfect health.
How often do you feel almost dead with your creations? You feel like nothing new can come from your hands or what does is not good enough. What is it that inspires you as an artist to create things or go places you have never gone before? What makes you grow?
For me one of the great motivating things I have participated in the last couple of years are the swaps at City O Clay. This time it is Colorful Ocean Creatures and for a while I was stumped at what to make. Last week I finally got some inspiration and am running with it!
Of course it is all top-secret until the swap is over but I think my entry if I can perfect it will be a great contribution.
What have you done that has challenged your art?
Or even better what will you do to let your art grow off the charts the way hubby’s gardenia has.
I am finally able to share with you the participants for the tin swap 2011. We have such a group of talented artists who really made this swap fun. I hope you enjoy the pictures and if you would like to join in on the fun the next swap has already started it is colorful ocean creatures.
Again I want to thank all the participants. Without you I would have nothing to sort and send. Thank you for all the hard work, time and determination you have proven to complete this task. Great job!
